Background and Objective
The Department of Clinical Hematology, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr RMLIMS), Lucknow, successfully organized the PICC Line Master Workshop on 22 August 2026, under the aegis of the Indian Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (ISHBT) and the Uttar Pradesh Hematology Group (UPHG). The workshop was conducted with the objective of providing resident doctors and nursing staff with practical, hands-on training in the safe and effective use of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC), with the ultimate aim of improving patient care.
Dignitaries Present
The workshop was graced by the presence of Prof. (Dr) CM Singh, Director, Dr RMLIMS, and Prof. (Dr) Pradyumn Singh, Dean, Dr RMLIMS. Dr Arvind Singh, MS, (Dr RMLIMS) and Prof. Rajan Bhatnagar, IQAC Chairman were present to encourage the team. The programme was led by Dr Namrata P. Awasthi, Professor and Head, Department of Clinical Hematology, who also served as the Organizing Chairperson. Dr Poorvi Kapoor (Organizing Secretary) and Dr Alpika Shukla played a key role in the successful coordination and organization of the workshop.

Session Highlights
Guest faculty Dr Tushant Kumar and Dr Abhishek Chauhan, Department of Radiodiagnosis, Dr RMLIMS, provided detailed technical and practical insights into PICC lines. The sessions covered the following key areas:
- Indications and appropriate use of PICC lines
- Patient selection and pre-procedure considerations
- Anatomy and safe insertion technique
- Infection prevention protocols
- Catheter care and maintenance
- Recognition and management of PICC-related complications
Participants were also given the opportunity to understand the procedure through a dedicated hands-on mannequin demonstration, conducted with support from Teleflex Medical Pvt Ltd, allowing attendees to translate theoretical knowledge into practical skill.
Participation
The workshop received an enthusiastic response from resident doctors and nursing staff, with a total of 51 registrations recorded for the programme. Participants engaged actively through the expert-led sessions and interactive discussions, which helped strengthen their knowledge and skills related to the safe use of PICC lines and patient-centred care.
Remarks
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Namrata P. Awasthi, Head of the Department of Clinical Hematology, noted that skill-based training programmes of this nature play a vital role in enhancing the competence of healthcare workers, while also contributing to the delivery of safe and quality medical care to patients.
Conclusion
The workshop concluded with a Valedictory Session and a formal Vote of Thanks extended to the Chief Patron, Co-Patrons, Guest of Honour, Guest Faculty, sponsors, and all participants for their valuable contribution to the success of the programme.
